Quick Access Toolbar (QAT) in Excel

The Quick Access Toolbar is a small toolbar that appears either:

  • Above the Ribbon (default position), or
  • Below the Ribbon (you can change this position)

It gives you one-click access to frequently used commands like Save, Undo, Redo, and anything else you choose to add!

Default Buttons on QAT

By default, the QAT includes:

  • 💾 Save
  • ↩️ Undo
  • ↪️ Redo

Customizing the Quick Access Toolbar : You can add/remove commands to fit your workflow

Method 1: Using the drop-down menu

  1. Click the small downward arrow at the end of the QAT
  2. A list of common commands appears (like New, Open, Quick Print, etc.)

Method 2: From Ribbon (Right-click Method)

  1. Right-click on any command in the Ribbon (e.g., Sort A to Z)
  2. Select “Add to Quick Access Toolbar”

Method 3: From Excel Options

  1. Click File > Options
  2. Choose Quick Access Toolbar
  3. From the left panel, pick a command to add
  4. Click Add >> to move it to the right panel
  5. Use Up/Down arrows to reorder buttons
  6. Click OK to save changes

Method 4: Advanced Customization (Excel Options)

  1. Go to File Options Quick Access Toolbar.
  2. Choose commands from:
    1. Popular Commands (Save, Undo, etc.)
    1. All Commands (Full list, including macros)
  3. Click Add >> to move commands to the QAT.
  4. Use  /  to reorder items.
  5. Click OK to save.
