1. Adjusting Column Width
Columns can be widened or narrowed to fit content.
Methods to Change Column Width:
A. Manual Adjustment (Drag & Resize)
- Move your cursor to the right edge of the column header (e.g., between A and B).
- The cursor changes to a double-sided arrow (↔).
- Click and drag to adjust the width.
- Wider: Drag right
- Narrower: Drag left
B. AutoFit Column Width (Excel) / Auto-Resize (Google Sheets)
Automatically adjusts width to fit the longest content.
- Excel:
- Double-click the right edge of the column header.
- Or, go to Home → Format → AutoFit Column Width.
- Google Sheets:
- Double-click the right edge of the column header.
C. Set Exact Column Width (Excel Only)
- Right-click the column header (e.g., A).
- Select Column Width.
- Enter a number (default is 8.43 in Excel, which represents characters).
2. Adjusting Row Height
Rows can be made taller or shorter, useful for multiline text.
Methods to Change Row Height:
A. Manual Adjustment (Drag & Resize)
- Move your cursor to the bottom edge of the row number (e.g., between 1 and 2).
- The cursor changes to a double-sided arrow (↕).
- Click and drag to adjust the height.
- Taller: Drag down
- Shorter: Drag up
B. AutoFit Row Height (Excel) / Auto-Resize (Google Sheets)
Automatically adjusts height to fit text.
Excel:
Double-click the bottom edge of the row number.
Or, go to Home → Format → AutoFit Row Height.
Google Sheets:
Double-click the bottom edge of the row number.
C. Set Exact Row Height (Excel Only)
Right-click the row number (e.g., 1).
Select Row Height.
Enter a number (default is 15 in Excel, measured in points).
3. Adjusting Multiple Rows/Columns at Once
Select multiple columns/rows (click and drag over headers).
Adjust one, and all selected rows/columns will match.
Example:
To make Columns A, B, C the same width:
Click and drag over A, B, C headers.
Adjust any column’s width → all selected columns update.
